Grand Army of the Republic Military Museum

Following recommendations from a 2017 Collections Assessment for Preservation report, the Grand Army of the Republic Military Museum, operated by the City of Aurora, Illinois, will optimize and improve collection storage conditions by strengthening both intellectual and physical control over the collection. Project activities include inventorying, rehousing, cataloguing, and digitizing priority archival records, and integrating improved descriptive metadata and digital surrogates into the museum’s collections management system. Outcomes of the project will be improvements to the care, documentation, and accessibility of the museum’s archival holdings by improving cataloguing practices and minimizing handling of fragile original items through digitization.
