Kodiak History Museum

The Kodiak History Museum will revise, publish, and distribute an updated edition of A Legacy Built to Last, a book that helps preserve and share knowledge of Kodiak’s past. The book presents an accessible narrative of key events in Kodiak’s history through the lens of the Russian-American Magazin—the oldest standing building in Alaska, a National Historic Landmark, and the current home of the Kodiak History Museum. The updated edition will provide the public with an engaging overview of Kodiak’s history from the Russian era of the 1700s to the present day. The book will be produced in print and eBook formats and widely distributed, with associated programming offered through local schools, local, state, and national libraries, and historic preservation and education partners to ensure broad public access. Primary beneficiaries include students, visitors to the museum, and the general public.
