Long Island Museum
Log Number: IGSM-260705-OMS-26
The Long Island Museum will digitize and catalog selected artifacts from the museum’s textile and clothing collection, which consists of over 10,000 items dating from the 18th century to the present day. Project staff will photograph, document, digitize, organize, and preserve two sub-collections, including 25 military and service professional uniforms, and 50 examples of clothing worn by Long Islanders during the region’s Gilded Age era (1880–1933). They will also produce two digital exhibitions featuring professional photographs and exploring the significance of these collections. An expanded online searchable collections database and enhanced digital offerings will provide broader access to this historic collection to students, historians, museum members, artists, researchers, and the interested public.
