Indiana University will investigate how the CIDOC Conceptual Reference Model can support research-oriented knowledge structures capable of integrating these heterogeneous forms of cultural heritage data. CIDOC-Conceptual Reference Model was developed to enable the exchange and integration of cultural heritage information across institutions and systems. While widely used for museum and cultural heritage documentation and metadata interoperability, this project seeks for the CIDOC-Conceptual Reference Model to be applied to modeling the research processes, analytical measurements, and evolving interpretations through which knowledge about cultural heritage objects is produced. The project will investigate how CIDOC-Conceptual Reference Model based modeling strategies can structure and integrate complex cultural heritage research data, including digital representations, chemical and spectrometric analyses, computational results, and scholarly interpretation. The project will use the Marble Map of Rome Project as a pilot dataset.
