Purpose: Sustaining Cultural Heritage The Buffalo Bill Museum and Grave, in Golden, Colorado, sustains cultural heritage by physically preserving artifacts related to the life and times of "Buffalo Bill" Cody, creating historical information regarding these items, and linking and disseminating this information. In this project, the museum will increase collections accessibility by creating an in-house digital database for all archival materials, two-dimensional artwork, and Wild West Show posters. During a two-year period, approximately 2,800 items will be entered into a database program. Each item will be entered into a computerized database system that includes all pertinent information, such as physical description, interpretive themes, historically significant references, donor information, and storage location. Each item will be either scanned or digitally photographed so that the museum's staff, researchers, and the general public can reference its images and information. In addition to enhancing the museum's exhibits and interpretation, these materials will enable the museum to better respond to the more than 600 research requests it receives annually.
