Purpose: Serving as Centers of Community Engagement The Abington Art Center will improve community access and interaction with its Sculpture Park and other outdoor resources-an important goal outlined in the recently completed Sculpture Park Master Plan. The art center will hire a team of professionals with whom it will work closely to accomplish this goal. The grounds are part of the municipal park system and are open to the public during hours when the art center is closed. There is a need for an introductory exhibit welcoming visitors to the 27-acre park, with guidelines for using the grounds and information about the art they will find. This project specifically includes (1) the design and fabrication of a welcome and orientation exhibit for the Sculpture Park to accommodate weekend family groups, casual visitors, and organized school parties during the week; (2) development of a wayfinding guide for the grounds, allowing casual and repeat visitors to navigate the grounds on their own; (3) development of signage standards (a design manual) to meet the immediate need for improving identification of building and grounds entrances and the longer term need for ongoing labeling of works of art installed in the Sculpture Park; (4) design and production of site furniture (benches, etc.); and (5) design and planning for lighting throughout the grounds.
