The Tennessee Aquarium will create a new, permanent exhibit titled “Megafishes: Disappearing River Giants” to increase public awareness of the causes and consequences of global loss of freshwater biodiversity. The centerpiece of “Megafishes” will be an 88,000-gallon tank displaying imperiled freshwater giants from around the world. Accompanying label text will discuss the global changes affecting their past, present, and future. Interpretive centers, video kiosks, anthropogenic tank décor, natural elements, and animal identification will guide visitors through the complex series of conservation concepts offered. Community education and experiential conservation programs will further expand the reach of “Megafishes.” Other partners on this project include the Tennessee Aquarium Conservation Institute and the Tennessee Lake Sturgeon Restoration Working Group.
