Midway Village Museum will construct and install an immersive, interactive exhibit on the history of immigration to Rockford, Illinois. The exhibit, entitled “Many Faces, One Community,” will create critical connections between the museum and its audience by providing historical interpretation that is broadly inclusive of Rockford’s diverse cultures. The exhibit will provide access to more of the museum’s collections on Rockford history. In each of five major exhibit areas, “The Stories That We Carry” stations will discuss the experiences of one immigrant and his or her family in depth. To complement a variety of learning styles, high and low tech interactive exhibits will be used throughout the space. It is hoped that the exhibit will be a catalyst for community support for new exhibits on Rockford history in the future.
