The Yellowstone Art Museum (YAM) will develop “Building on Solid Foundations.” This project seizes the opportunity provided by a new, publicly accessible collection storage facility to develop a different layer of interpretation that will 1) deepen the art education program and 2) help children understand connections made between material culture and personal and collective identity. Further, the project includes components that respond to a demand from the community that school programming expand to new grade levels and that YAM’s geographic reach be extended to a remote part of the country with few cultural resources. This project builds on YAM’s success in growing outreach and in developing fruitful relationships on the Crow Indian reservation, in Yellowstone County’s Title I schools, in northern Wyoming schools, and with area Head Start programs.
