The North Museum of Natural History & Science in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, will create a Long-Range Collections Plan. This three-year project will lay essential groundwork for a new museum in downtown Lancaster, defining facility needs for collections storage, display, and research. The project will primarily support the new full-time curator of collections, who will work with collections experts and an interpretive consultant to evaluate the quality, exhibit potential, and research value of our thirteen scientific collections. He or she will develop the Long-Range Collections Plan, initiate collaborative collections-related research projects with local colleges, re-interpret objects on display as prototype exhibits for the new museum, and begin packing 360,000 objects for the move downtown. Successful implementation will build the North Museum’s capacity to interpret and permanently preserve the natural heritage of the Lower Susquehanna Valley.
