Hands On Discovery Center

Hands On! Discovery Center (HODC) will purchase a portable planetarium and integrate it into ongoing programs designed to engage school-aged children and the public of all ages in the exploration of the earth and sky, both on-site and in the community, by integrating existing hands-on programs and exhibit experiences with the immersive experience of a portable planetarium. HODC aims to: support science learning across the region; enhance exhibit and program offerings; build enthusiasm, interest, and engagement in astronomy and geology; and support staff, volunteers, and teachers in their understanding and facilitation of inspiring, immersive experiences for learners of all ages. Engagement with multiple audiences over the year of support will serve as groundwork for achieving these long-term goals, and will include approximately 90 teachers, 1,200 students on field trips, 300 visitors, and 37 staff and volunteers. Impacts and feedback will be gathered through surveys, post-program interviews, and registration data, ensuring alignment with curriculum standards for school groups and general appeal and engagement for the public.
