The North Carolina Railroad Museum will undertake a project to elevate the technological history of three unique pieces of railroad history. A 1918 Pullman Baggage Car will tell the story of the Pullman Company and how its various types of luxurious cars changed modern railroads, as well as the story of Pullman Porters. A 1962 Bay Window caboose will be transformed into the museum’s first exhibit totally devoted to Pre-K STEM education. Finally, a rare Nuclear Escort Vehicle will be used to explain security on trains transporting radioactive materials. Project activities include exterior restoration and interior electrical, lighting, heating, and ventilation upgrades, as well as the installation of state-of-the-art interactive and self-directed exhibit kiosks focusing on the stories of the people who created and used these unique train cars.
