University of Alaska Museum of the North

Log Number: MA-259861-OMS-26

The University of Alaska Museum of the North will create a pair of exhibits focused on Bus 142, the abandoned bus that was the center of the “Into the Wild” book and film adaptation. Transferred to the museum by the state of Alaska in 2020, the bus will be the focus of a free outdoor exhibition space and accompanied by an indoor exhibit presenting historic film footage, photographs, and oral recordings. Project activities will involve label writing, exhibit design, fabrication, and installation. The museum will engage an external designer, education specialist, and paid student assistant to work with staff to implement project activities. A 25-member interpretive advisory committee will guide the development of labels and public program content, and an external evaluator will conduct formative evaluations of the exhibits, intended to benefit visitors, college students, and K–12 school groups.
