National Liberty Museum

The National Liberty Museum (NLM) will commission an original sound sculpture from renowned sound artist Bill Fontana for its “The Sound of Liberty” project. Fontana will capture the harmonic voice of the Liberty Bell and the surrounding environment of Independence Mall. The resulting audio will be installed in NLM’s galleries for an immersive exhibition featuring NLM’s twin Liberty Bell—from the same foundry and cast as the original. NLM will exhibit "The Sound of Liberty" within its 15-month exhibition series "The Forgotten Freedom: American Assembly at 250" and will implement public programming for visitors and school groups, with a focus on civic engagement, throughout the project. Beneficiaries of this project are visitors to the National Liberty Museum, including field trip participants and special event attendees.
