Log Number: MA-260191-OMS-26
The Wisconsin Maritime Museum will improve the management and preservation of its collections by rehousing, cataloging, and stabilizing approximately 10,000 artifacts recovered from 41 shipwrecks in the Great Lakes region. The project will support a maritime collections specialist, who will work with paid graduate student interns to properly document and rehouse the collection, which includes metals, ceramics, wood, glass, leather, and textiles. The project team will purchase rehousing supplies, shelving, and equipment, and the museum will finalize a long-range preservation plan for the collection. The project will increase public access and knowledge about the region’s maritime heritage and strengthen the museum’s partnerships with the Wisconsin Historical Society and the Wisconsin Shipwreck National Marine Sanctuary.
