The Geneva History Museum will improve the care of its collections by implementing a redesign of its storage areas to overcome overcrowding and accommodate future growth. The museum will replace industrial metal shelving and wooden pegboards with high-density custom mobile storage systems. Museum staff and volunteers will move objects to temporary storage locations during the installation and redesign of its 2,000-square-foot collections room and 468-square-foot archives stacks room. The project team will return objects to the newly designed rooms, create new shelving labels, and update locations in the electronic database. The museum will complete a collections inventory and updates to its collections plan. The project design is based on recommendations from a variety of assessment reports prioritizing a need to minimize the risk of damage to the collections and maximize the museum's limited on-site storage areas.
