Henry Morrison Flagler Museum

Log Number: MA-31-18-0293-18

The Flagler Museum will conserve and treat four historic clocks, three of which are original to the Flagler family and one that belonged to the Florida East Coast Railway. The project follows recommendations received as part of a recent Detailed Timepiece Collection Survey funded by a private foundation. The museum will engage a horological conservator to provide conservation and treatment, addressing movements damaged by environmental conditions, overly aggressive housekeeping practices or poor repair efforts in decades past, excessive wear from daily use, and erosion of materials such as gilding. The museum's exhibit technician will purchase materials and build shipping crates, after which the conservator will disassemble and pack the clocks for transportation to his workshop to perform the work. All four clocks will run well, keep accurate time, and will be returned to permanent exhibition.
