California Association of Museums

Log Number: MG-251986-OMS-22

The California Association of Museums will develop a suite of professional development resources and activities to help California museums address systemic racism and exclusions that exist within the museum field and work environments. Project activities include producing a series of four workshops focused on the principles of diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion; developing a virtual space for networking and resource-sharing among Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) museum employees and another for emerging museum professionals (EMPs); establishing a one-to-one mentoring program for EMPs; hosting 12 roundtable discussions for senior level managers; and holding four in-person networking events for BIPOC and/or EMPs. The project will result in new models for museum service organizations to better serve underrepresented museum professionals, while establishing a foundation for the California museum field to address the internal barriers that prevent more equitable access and practices.
