Stoutsburg Sourland African American Museum
Log Number: MH-257373-OMS-25
Stoutsburg Sourland African American Museum (SSAAM) will work with K-12 teachers and students to create standards-aligned, grade level–based presentations and activities that staff will bring into area elementary, middle, and high school classrooms. SSAAM will hire a School Specialist to develop curricula and activities as well as conduct outreach to teachers and schools. School presentation kits will include multimedia components and interactive activities to engage students, encouraging them to interpret historical sources and reflect on local history with art and research. Student participants will learn how to interpret historical sources and handle artifacts and archival materials from SSAAM’s museum collection and will be encouraged to reflect on SSAAM’s presentations with independent writing and art projects. This project will ensure that SSAAM has the staff capacity to engage in active outreach to area schools, allowing the museum to make its programming accessible to a broader school audience.
