Avery Research Center for African American History and Culture at the College of Charleston will establish a heritage interpretation field school. The purpose of the field school is to introduce at least 15 participants to the National Association for Interpretation and Certified Interpretive Guiding training, teach them interpretive principles, techniques, program development and delivery. Ideal candidates for the field school are high school seniors and undergraduate and graduate students with an interest or background in history/public history, historic preservation, museum studies majors, earth science, biology, or a related field. The project will also introduce participants to natural and cultural history via experiential learning opportunities and connect them with employment opportunities in the field of interpretation at local heritage sites and cultural institutions.
