August Wilson African American Cultural Center
Log Number: MH-260051-OMS-26
The August Wilson African American Cultural Center will expand its arts ambassador program that connects 10th grade students in Pittsburgh Public Schools to world class visual, performing, and literary arts. Project activities include planning sessions with teachers and stakeholders, hosting up to four on-site visits to experience arts and culture events, and arranging on-site visits from teaching artists for debrief sessions with students. Arts events will be offered to students and school chaperones at no cost and transportation will be subsidized. Classroom teachers will receive new lessons plans to increase student engagement and facilitate a more integrated learning experience. This project supports collaboration with 10th grade teachers and school administrators to help shape project design during the planning process. The project will enable the program’s expansion to 800 students during the 2026-27 school year with the goal of eventually serving all publicly enrolled 10th grade students in Pittsburgh.
