Banneker-Douglass-Tubman Museum

The Banneker Douglass Tubman Museum will implement the development phase for a revitalized permanent exhibition to better reflect the museum’s expanded fine art holdings, contemporary scholarship, and current standards in exhibition design. Project activities include studying exhibitions at peer institutions, research within the museum’s own archive, curatorial development and collections processing, design planning, and project management. The project supports hiring a project manager to coordinate staff activities, along with a post-doctoral fellow to deepen understanding of historic collections. A cohort of twelve museum professionals, historians, and educators will help shape the scope and interpretive framework of the exhibition to ensure it reflects both historical depth and regional specificity across Maryland. The outcome of project activities will be an interpretive plan and expanded partnerships to support the development and installation of the new permanent exhibit.
