Evansville African American Museum

The Evansville African American Museum will host a series of museum events honoring African American military heroes through stories of their shared American experience. Project activities include developing an exhibition highlighting local African American military members, an oral history project, adding historical markers to the Evansville African American Heritage Trail, and organizing a traveling lecture series to highlight shared military experiences. The exhibition will highlight contemporary African American veterans and active service members, while also honoring those who have passed away, through their artifacts in the museum's permanent collection. The project involves partnering with Indiana Landmarks and the University of Evansville to offer a collaborative course focused on recording stories from local African Americans to enhance the upcoming exhibition. The outcome of project activities will be a dedicated exhibition space and expanded programs honoring the African American military service members.
