Purpose: Expanding Educational Services Funding will allow the Pittsburgh Zoo to create an interactive area, Windows to Conservation, designed to stimulate inquisitive children to become engaged learners about nature and proactive conservationists. The area will be located in the zoo's newly expanded and renovated education complex. The interactive area will feature four different local habitats found in western Pennsylvania, e.g., meadow, wetlands, forest, backyard, and use technology to create interactive kiosks and educational games, and chemistry kits and soil testing to support the themes in each area. Curricula for the Windows project are tied to Pennsylvania and national educational standards. Through this project, the zoo intends to expand it inspire children to: -- Think globally and act locally -- Increase their interest in conservation and life science -- Become proactive conservationists.
