Akwesasne Museum

Purpose: Expanding Educational Services "Gathering Knowledge" is an initiative that will put new concepts into practice at the Akwesasne Museum. Present educational programming consists mainly of traditional art classes. This new initiative will include interviews with community members who practice either traditional or contemporary arts that convey cultural knowledge; youth response to the interviews; and a tent event to share educational resources in a format that is accessible and inviting to a large audience. A Junior Curators group of young Mohawk people will have an educational experience in helping to design exhibits in the "Gathering Knowledge" Program and by visiting other institutions for a broad view of exhibits and an introduction to the field of museum work.
