Bishop Indian Tribal Council

Log Number: MN-249889-OMS-21

The Bishop Paiute Tribe will create a cultural outreach and education program at its Owens Valley Paiute Shoshone Cultural Center. Aligned with the tribe’s strategic plan, the goal of the project is to preserve, strengthen, and renew cultural connection through education programs as they relate to the natural resources of tribal lands on and off tribal reservations. A newly created position of cultural outreach coordinator will facilitate the development of an introductory program--“Eastern Sierra Watersheds: The Culturally Historic connection between Water and the Paiute and Shoshone People.” The project team will organize field trips to watersheds and conduct research to develop water shed curriculum kits, ten of which will be disseminated to local partners, tribes and available for check-out from the museum. The project will also produce a five-panel exhibit to be permanently displayed in the center.
