Mescalero Apache Tribe

The Mescalero Apache Tribe will address the need to connect Tribal members, in particular Tribal youth, to their culture and history by creating community-oriented publications directed at a Tribal audience that highlight the history and heritage of the Whitetail Community on the Mescalero Apache Reservation. To preserve this unique history for present and future generations of Mescalero Apache people, the Tribe seeks to formally document the Whitetail Community through oral history, archival, and archaeological research, and synthesize this information into a series of community-oriented publications and a Tribally managed archival database. The project will be implemented by a research team led by Tribal staff and knowledge-holders who will employ various methods, including a community booklet and ArcGIS StoryMap, to capture and present this heritage in engaging ways.
