Chickaloon Native Village

The Chickaloon Village Traditional Council is undertaking the creation of a community biography for Katherine (Wickersham) Wade, affectionately known as Aunt Katie, a significant historical figure among the Ahtna Dene. This collective biography will blend oral history traditions with modern digital preservation techniques, highlighting the interconnectedness of Nay’dini’aa Na’ Kayax (Chickaloon Native Village) and the broader Ahtna Dene community. The project aims to produce a posthumous biographical sketch by digitizing Aunt Katie’s personal photographs, documents, and ethnographic objects, alongside oral history interviews with her family and friends. All digital materials created during this project will be accessible through the Tribe’s online database and will be shared in accordance with traditional community protocols.
