Sokaogon Chippewa Community

The Sokaogon Chippewa Community will hire a Tribal Archivist and establish a Tribal Archive and Museum in a new community building in order to consolidate loosely controlled collections of documents and artifacts currently housed in Tribal offices, basements, and even unheated garages. By installing new museum-quality mobile shelving in the new facility and ensuring that all items are individually labeled and rehoused in archival-quality packaging, this project will drastically improve the Tribe’s archival and collections storage practices. Ultimately, the project will build the Tribe’s capacity to take care of its historical and cultural documents and artifacts, supporting its long-term plan to steward its significant cultural holdings for future generations.
