The Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe of Michigan will continue its ongoing efforts to digitize records of the Mount Pleasant Indian Industrial Boarding School and make them publicly accessible at the Ziibiwing Center for Anishinabe Lifeways & Culture. Project activities will include sending trained and experienced members of the project team to the National Archives Records Administration (NARA) in Washington, DC, to digitize 37 boxes of additional correspondence between the Superintendents of the school and the Commissioner of Indian Affairs. The project expands on a previous award to digitize the first half of this correspondence, located at NARA’s Chicago facility, and will result in these records being publicly accessible and united in one single repository for the first time.
