Sealaska Corporation

Sealaska Heritage Institute, on behalf of Sealaska Corporation, will build its capacity to serve the Corporation’s 26,000 Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian shareholders, their descendants, and the public, by uplifting the linguistic skills of Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian language teams. Project activities will include translating and transcribing 24 hours of oratory delivered by Tribal elders, adding subtitles to the oratorical performance videos, and making the subtitled videos and transcriptions publicly accessible. Making these video and audio recordings accessible to the living and future members of the Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian lineages will allow community members to learn what their ancestors and relatives sought to convey about their experiences and perspectives in their own language.
