Central Council of Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes

The Central Council of the Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska's Haa Shagoon: A Tlingit and Haida Cultural Arts Education Initiative project will provide structured traditional arts instruction at the library. The project funds will support Tlingit and Haida master artists and the purchase of traditional arts instructional materials for hands-on cultural arts programming such as weaving, beadwork, regalia-making classes. Two programming tracks will be offered: one for Tribal youth ages 14 to 24, coordinated with the Youth Employment Services Program and Youth Engagement Department, and open-enrollment sessions available to all enrolled Tribal members. The library will produce curriculum guides co-developed with contracted artists, catalogued in the Tribal Library's permanent collection and made available digitally for Tribal citizens and anyone living outside Southeast Alaska.
