The Georgia Public Library Service and Valdosta State University’s Department of Information Studies will prepare 45 students to be public librarians with expertise in community building. This program of study will emphasize the crafting of library services around specific community improvement initiatives in a way that builds social and human capital. In addition to the required Master’s in Library and Information Science curriculum, students in this scholarship program will participate in community-building workshops and take an advanced seminar in public librarianship, which will be taught by the staff of the Georgia Public Library Service.
