The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s School of Information and Library Science (SILS) will partner with the National Archives and Records Administration to develop an openly accessible graduate-level curriculum to prepare students to work in the field of digital preservation. While much work has been done in this new field, little has been accomplished in the way of new education to prepare the first generation of digital curators to work in trusted digital repositories. With an advisory board of key international experts in the field, this project will provide funds for an initial group of five Carolina Digital Curation Fellows who will integrate the curriculum, advertise the existence of the programs at SILS, and draw attention to the need for digital curation. Two symposia will also bring the issues of digital curation and this curriculum to the broader library, archives, and museum communities as well as the public.
