Florida State University will develop a sustainable data curation internship program for Library and Information Science (LIS) students, centered on the ongoing curation of the Unified Astronomy Thesaurus. In collaboration with stakeholder partners, this project will design a structured internship program providing LIS students with hands-on experience in metadata management, knowledge organization, and scientific information curation. Through mentorship, experiential learning, and collaboration with astronomy and LIS professionals, students will gain practical competencies in managing controlled vocabularies and supporting open science initiatives. Key project outcomes include a defined internship framework, a planned curriculum integrating UAT curation into LIS education, a landscape mapping of other hands-on curation opportunities that could follow a similar model, and a sustainability plan. This initiative bridges LIS education and STEM data curation, preparing students for interdisciplinary, data-driven careers.
