IMLS Begins Announcing 2026 Library Investments

More than 100 institutions will receive funding to advance libraries and archives, with additional awards to come.

WASHINGTON, DC— The Institute of Museum and Library Services, the nation’s leading source of federal funding for museums and libraries, has announced the recipients of two of its five discretionary library grant programs.

The 102 institutions awarded through these programs will use the funds to complete projects that advance libraries and archives. Each project successfully underwent a competitive peer review process and a review by agency leadership. The Grant Programs

• The Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Program (LB21) awarded 40 projects to support the training and professional development of library and archives professionals; develop faculty and information leaders; and recruit, educate, and retain the next generation of library and archives professionals in order to meet the information needs of their communities.
• The National Leadership Grants for Libraries Program (NLG-L) awarded 62 projects that will develop, enhance, adapt, or disseminate replicable practices, programs, models, or tools to strengthen library and archival services for the American public.
