Washington, DC—The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), in cooperation with Heritage Preservation, is presenting WebWise Reprise, two online events based on the IMLS WebWise 2013 conference. Both webinars will feature how cultural institutions are using digital images to increase and improve access to their collections. Using Collections Images in Online Exhibits will be held on Monday, June 3, 2013, from 2:00-3:30 p.m. EDT, and Using Collections Images in Educational Materials will be on Wednesday, June 5, 2013, from 2:00-3:30 p.m. EDT.
WebWise Reprise will be hosted in the Connecting to Collections Online Community, which is part of Connecting to Collections, a multifaceted national initiative of the Institute of Museum and Library Services to aid museums, libraries, archives, and historical societies in their care of collections. The online community draws on many resources that were developed for the initiative, including the Connecting to Collections Bookshelf and the Raising the Bar Workshops and Webinars.
Since 2000, the WebWise conference has brought together representatives of museums, libraries, archives, systems science, education, and other fields interested in the future of high-quality online content for inquiry and learning. This annual conference highlights recent research and innovations in digital technology, explores their potential impacts on library and museum services, and promotes effective museum and library practices in the digital environment. It also provides recipients of technology-based grants from the Institute an opportunity to showcase their exemplary projects. This year’s conference, WebWise 2013: Putting the Learner at the Center, was held in Baltimore from March 6-8, 2013.
The WebWise Reprise webinars will be 90 minutes and include demonstrations made at the conference. After a presentation, the speakers will have ample time to take questions from participants. Heritage Preservation Vice President Kristen Laise will moderate the webinars.
WebWise Reprise is being offered free of charge and no pre-registration is required. Participants do not need to be a member of the Connecting to Collections Online Community to participate in these webinars. Simply go to the community’s Meeting Room at the time of the webinar, enter your name and location, and join the conversation. To make sure that the Adobe Connect Pro software will run correctly on your computer, please run a tech check before the webinar.

Using Collections Images in Online Exhibits
Speaker: Shalimar White, Manager of the Image Collections and Fieldwork Archives, Dumbarton Oaks Research Library and Collection, Washington, DC
Ms. White will discuss making digital images of Dumbarton Oaks’ Nicholas V. Artamonoff Collection available through an online exhibit using Omeka. She will talk about the process, experience, and lessons learned from this project. She will also discuss how the project involved undergraduate and graduate interns.
Wednesday, June 5, 2013, 2:00-3:30 p.m. EDT
Using Collections Images in Educational Materials
Speaker: Suzi Hunn Gran, Curriculum Specialist, Minnesota Historical Society, St. Paul, MN
Ms. Gran will discuss how the Northern Lights Minnesota Social Studies Curriculum textbook and iPad App features the Minnesota Historical Society collections and how others can use digital images creatively and interactively in educational programming. She will review how the historical society selected content to meet state social studies standards and share insights on how K-12 education is using technology in the classroom.
