The Nation Celebrates Making and Makerspaces

The Capitol Hill Maker Faire on June 11 kicked off a celebration of making in the Nation's Capital and was held in conjunction with the much larger National Maker Faire on June 12 and 13. It was a fun and interactive event for members of the public, including members of Congress and their staff.

Hosted by the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services in collaboration with the Congressional Maker Caucus, Maker Media, and Nation of Makers, the event explored the new movement driven by hobbyists, tinkerers, crafters, and innovators that is changing the face of informal learning at community institutions and is breathing new life and innovation into American manufacturing.

Preceding the Faire, there was a series of panel discussions with leaders of the Maker movement discussing its impact on the economy, education, and community development.
