The Atlanta Botanical Garden has implemented DNA barcoding of its world-class collection of 2,000 orchid species in collaboration with experts at Columbus State University. Using IMLS funding, a DNA library is being created from orchid species which will result in an improved understanding of the diversity housed in the permanent living orchid collection. Additionally, a training program in DNA barcoding for high school and undergraduate students and teachers will be developed and implemented at ABG to support training in this technology and its applications.
